Volunteer Recognition

The Finkelstein Award is a very special award intended to recognize and congratulate an individual whose contributions reflect excellence either through a particular accomplishment or through continuous efforts over time.

We are pleased every year to give a“hug”to a deserving individual supporting the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada. This year’s recipient has been a long time supporter and volunteer of the CCFC and has made it his absolute mission to grow community support.

This year’s recipient unfortunately suffered a severe health set back this year, and nearly lost his life, but it did not stop him from bouncing back.  He even used the planning and preparation of their Gutsy Walk as therapy and rehabilitation.

His personal story and passion ignited everyone around them resulting in a stunning 156% growth of Gutsy Walk in just one year!

Congratulations to the 2013 Finkelstein Award recipient - Stephen Gill of Abbotsford, BC!

Here’s what others had to say about Stephen Gill.

“He does a fantastic job of engaging and inspiring others”

“He’s an incredible, unselfish, passionate unassuming human being….a truly inspirational leader”

“Stephen is the glue that continually holds the Abbotsford Gutsy Walk Chapter together”

Nancy Nagy Unsung Hero

This award is presented yearly to an individual volunteer who has inconspicuously made a substantial contribution to the work of the Foundation over time. This volunteer may or may not have held any particular office, and may or not have been recognized previously for their efforts.

We are  honoured to recognize Nancy Nagy as the 2013 Unsung Award recipient.  Nancy has been involved in nearly every position with the CCFC over the last 25 years and has played a significant role in more than one Chapter - Winnipeg and Regina.  She also served nationally as a Regional Vice President and Chair positions for Gutsy Walk, M&M Charity BBQ Day.

Over the last seven years, Nancy has been actively involved in the Winnipeg Gutsy Walk and persevered through leadership transitions, while motivating volunteers to move the Walk past the $25K mark, ultimately achieving and surpassing her goal of $100K.

Nancy Nagy has been a top pledge earner (TPE) every year and it is no surprise she is committed to achieving overall success on behalf of the CCFC.

Congratulations Nancy on your wonderful achievements and unwavering commitment to the CCFC!

2012 Diamond Jubilee Winners

Created in 2012, the Diamond Jubilee Medal marks the 60th anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as Queen of Canada. This commemorative medal is presented to highly respected members of the community in honour of their achievements towards shaping the Canada we know today.

The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada (CCFC) awarded 30 Queen’s Jubilee Medals that were presented regionally. Candidates were chosen based upon their continued dedication with at least 10 years of volunteer experience. Recipients demonstrated well-rounded volunteer experience, having contributed to the success of delivering the CCFC promise, advancing awareness of the inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) community and providing leadership in educating Canadians about IBD.

Recipients were recognized in regional events across Canada.

In Lethbridge Alberta, our volunteer story was fortunate to be picked up by GlobalTV News, highlighting Karen Gay’s valuable CCFC contributions. Western Executive Director, Paul Evered, presented Ms. Gay with her medal in a small ceremony during a local chapter meeting.
