Frequently Asked Questions on volunteering

How much time a week/month will I be asked to volunteer?
It all depends on the volunteer position you choose. On average, many full-year volunteers, particularly those who hold a leadership position, will volunteer anywhere from 5-10 hours per month. Event-specific or short-term volunteers normally volunteer anywhere from a couple of hours to six hours on a one-time/annual event, depending on the type of
event and their volunteer role on that day. We are very flexible and are more than willing to work within your schedule and level of availability.

What are the qualifications/requirements for becoming a volunteer?
It depends on the volunteer position – it can vary from little to previous volunteer experience with the CCFC or another health-related charity. In all cases, each volunteer will be trained and will have the open access to work with an assigned CCFC staff representative who will guide and act as a resource to the volunteer.

Are there certain weeks/months or time of the year when volunteers are needed most?
Our busiest periods are spring to early summer when M&M Meat Shops holds its annual Charity BBQ and we hold our annual walk-a-thons; and fall when we hold our Fall Fundraiser events. At other times throughout the year, volunteers are needed to lead or assist with ongoing Chapter initiatives and/or events.

What kind of work will I be doing?
We have a wide range of volunteer duties and positions and encourage you to browse through our volunteer job descriptions section. You may also choose to contact your local CCFC Chapter as not all volunteer duties are listed online.

How do I become a Volunteer with the CCFC?
Simply fill in the 'Become a Volunteer' form and you will be contacted within 24 hours by your local CCFC Chapter or staff representative – it’s that easy!

How is it determined which volunteer position I will fill?
Within the 'Become a Volunteer' form, you will be asked to fill in the “Likes Sheet” which will give us a better idea of your likes and dislikes. We will use this information to make suggestions of available positions that may be of interest to you.  Then ultimately, the choice is up to you!

If I don’t like the position assigned to me, can I change it?
Absolutely!  Simply tell your Chapter President or CCFC staff representative and he/she will work with you to find something more suitable.

What happens if I am away and unable to fulfill my voluntary commitments?
We recognize that volunteers will take vacations, or experience other situations that may temporarily make it difficult for them to fulfill their commitments (i.e. illness).  In these cases, your Chapter President will assign someone to take on your position (or delegate certain responsibilities to other volunteers in the Chapter) until you are able to resume your duties.

I have a special skill or hobby that I would like to use. Can I volunteer in this capacity?
Absolutely – speak with your Chapter President or CCFC staff representative to see if such an opportunity exists within the Chapter.

I would like to develop my skills in a new area; can I volunteer in that capacity?
Absolutely – speak with your Chapter President or CCFC staff representative to see if such an opportunity exists within the Chapter.

Can I perform my volunteer duties from home or do I have to go to a specific location?
With the exception of monthly Chapter meetings (for leadership and committee member volunteers), volunteer duties are often performed from the comfort and convenience of your home.

Is there an age requirement?
For the most part, no. You must be 18 years or older to hold the position of Chapter President or Treasurer, but otherwise, we have positions for volunteers of all ages!

Is there training involved?
Yes, you will receive training from a volunteer leader within your Chapter and/or your CCFC staff representative.  We want you to know as much about us as you can!

Do I need past volunteer experience?
For the most part, no.  However, for some positions (i.e. Chapter President), past volunteer experience may be helpful, but is not required.
