Diversity at the CCFC

Diversity Statement

In February 2008, the National Board of Directors endorsed the CCFC Diversity Statement and the Foundation's commitment to ensuring that we are best meeting the needs of all of our stakeholders.

The goal of the diversity initiative is to make the CCFC a fully inclusive organization, recognizing the ethnocultural diversity of Canada.

What's New in Diversity

The CCFC has begun the production of FOCUS on DIVERSITY, an assortment of diversity highlights and tips, that will be circulated with our bi-monthly volunteer enewsletter FOCUS.

FOCUS on DIVERSITY February 2008
FOCUS on DIVERSITY April 2008
FOCUS on DIVERSITY May 2008

To receive current issues of FOCUS on DIVERSITY , email: diversity@ccfc.ca

We are currently in the process of creating a national Diversity Taskforce to help us strategize on how to best move forward in this area. If this is an area that interests you and you feel that you could be an asset to the Taskforce, please email: diversity@ccfc.ca

Multilingual Tools

The CCFC recognizes that we need to embrace all Canadians and in an effort to better reach populations whose first language is not English, we have created our first set of information brochures in the following languages. Click here to download a copy of our information brochure in Arabic, Chinese (Simplified, Traditional), English, Italian, Portuguese or Punjabi.

Tips from our Diversity Companion©

  • Gain knowledge of your community. Understand demographics, education levels, countries of origin, English/French fluency, duration of residency in Canada. Visit the Statistics Canada website to find out exact data from our last census. Talk with other not for profit groups in your area, check with your local volunteer office, multicultural centres, ESL offices and YMCA groups.
  • Create a database of community agencies.
    Ideas: Social planning councils/Multicultural centres/YMCA/ALINC/ ESL/Language/ Immigration agencies/Religious organizations/Ethnic organizations/Cultural organizations/Multicultural Media Outlets
  • Introduce yourself to diverse groups in your community. As a first step, personalize and send out a 'hello' letter to those on your database. Try to meet the guidelines for your community size. This is the first step in establishing partnerships that will benefit both the Foundation and the community.
  • Call all contacts two weeks after mailing the letter. Ask to visit the organization and if possible, to give their clients a short overview of the Foundation, volunteering and the not for profit sector. Ask to publish information about the Foundation in their next newsletter or bulletin.
  • Engage any new contacts by providing them with information on the Foundation and a personal visit/phone call to find out how they can become a friend of the Foundation. Maintain the friendship with frequent contact, mailings of CCFC information and your Chapter and regional activities and newsletters.
  • Locate influential leaders in the different communities in your area and keep them informed about Foundation activities in the area. Ask for their expertise on reaching their communities, creating awareness and engaging them in Foundation activities.
  • Research local food, dance, music and information events and festivals. Participate by asking to set up an information booth, do a small talk or hand out CCFC materials.
  • Circulate your PSA and Chapter information to different media outlets. Try to link in to existing publications and media
